OneBite ("we," "our," or "us") operates the OneBite mobile application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our app.
1. Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Account Data: Email address, display name, and password when you register. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email from those services.
- Profile Preferences: Dietary restrictions, disliked ingredients, favorite cuisines, cooking skill level, and maximum cooking time.
- User Content: Recipes you save, ratings you give, grocery lists you create, and pantry items you add.
- Social Data: Friend connections via partner codes, group memberships, and recipe matches.
Information Collected Automatically
- Usage Data: Swipe history (likes/skips), app usage frequency, feature engagement, and session duration.
- Device Data: Device type, operating system, app version, and push notification tokens.
- Analytics: Anonymous usage statistics to improve the app experience.
Information We Do NOT Collect
- Precise geolocation data
- Contacts or address book
- Photos or camera data (except when you use the pantry scanner feature, which processes images on our servers and does not store the original photos)
- Financial information (payments are processed by Apple/Google via RevenueCat; we never see your card details)
2. How We Use Your Information
- Provide the Service: Show personalized recipe recommendations based on your preferences and swipe history.
- AI Features: Generate custom recipes using your dietary preferences and ingredient inputs via OpenAI's API. Your inputs are sent to OpenAI for processing but are not used to train their models.
- Social Features: Match you with friends on recipes, manage groups, and notify you of matches.
- Notifications: Send push notifications about matches, streaks, and new recipes (you can opt out anytime).
- Improve the App: Analyze aggregated usage patterns to improve recipes, features, and performance.
- Customer Support: Respond to your requests and troubleshoot issues.
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:
- Service Providers: OpenAI (AI recipe generation), Amazon Web Services (hosting and storage), Firebase (push notifications), RevenueCat (subscription management), and Sentry (error monitoring).
- Other Users: Your display name and partner code are visible to friends you connect with. Recipe matches are shared between matched users.
- Legal Requirements: If required by law, court order, or to protect our rights and safety.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on Amazon Web Services (AWS) servers in the United States. We use industry-standard security measures including:
- HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
- Encrypted database connections
- JWT token-based authentication with token rotation
- Rate limiting to prevent abuse
- Regular security audits
5. Data Retention
- Account Data: Retained as long as your account is active.
- Usage Data: Aggregated analytics retained indefinitely; individual swipe history retained for 1 year.
- Deleted Accounts: All personal data is permanently deleted within 30 days of account deletion. Anonymized aggregate data may be retained.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of your personal data via the app's Profile section.
- Correct: Update your profile and preferences at any time in the app.
- Delete: Delete your account and all data at getonebiteapp.com/delete-account or via Profile → About → Delete Account.
- Opt Out: Disable push notifications in your device settings.
7. Children's Privacy
OneBite is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. Third-Party Links
The app may contain links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these sites.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via in-app notification or email. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
